In these kinds of card games there are several rounds of play and each player chooses and plays one card, and when all are played the various values are compared to each other and one player wins the trick. Examples of trick-taking games are Bridge and Whist
- Card games where the object is to compare overall hand values
In these card games a series of cards are dealt to the players by particular rules. The winner of the game is the player who has the highest scoring hand as the games finishes. Examples of comparing card games are poker and blackjack
- Card Games where the object is to accumulate matching cards
Players in matching card games are dealt cards and then play by drawing and discard to accumulate matching groups of cards before other players. Examples are the old game Rummy and the once very popular Canasta played with two decks. These are “melding” games where matching sets are “melds”
